    REVIEW
(Metro LP)
Another fiery live set from Jimmy and his trio. He never stopped gigging in the trio format and it's clear that on occasions like this it gave him a chance to play at the extreme end of his style, in a manner not happily accepted by those in charge of his 'regular' album output. Whilst this set isn't as insane as his previous Live At The Village Gate, it is still a corker. This time out he really holds down those long, high notes with Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? being the most ludicrous example, where he holds on for almost two minutes. And the crowd love it. So should you.

Salle Pleyel May 28th, 1965 CD   The sound quality on this two CD reissue leaves a lot to be desired, being quite tinny as well as having an overly loud crowd. However, it is the only chance you're likely to get to hear a full Jimmy Smith concert, so is lamost worth what is usually an inexpensive investment..
