REVIEW   This, Jimmy Smith's second collaboration with Johnny Pate, was more sucessful than their previous effort, Groove Drops. It also marks Jimmy's first foray into the jazz funk arena, although not his best. The funk here is mostly quite rough, with heavy beats and plenty of distorted and wah'd guitar. Pate brings in plenty of big brass to jazz things up a little, whilst over it all Jimmy just keeps on doing his thing. He also sings on a few of the tunes here, although not particularly well. It's a tough-sounding album, with a formula that was never returned too.
